Welcome to the AA4RE mailbox V 2.13
------------------------------------
Sorry this took so long but I think you will be pleased. Lots of new
features to make your life as a SYSOP easier.
The biggies are:
-- DPMI mode (breaks the 640K barrier)
-- Binary messages (See ATTACH.DOC)
The following organizations have been helpful in producing this release:
-- Volunteeris in Technical Assistance (VITA), PO Box 12438,
Arlington, VA, 22209.
-- US Navy MARS
-- Kantronics
-- HAL Communications
-- DRSI
-- RT Systems
-- Paccomm
Conversion
----------
See CONVERT.DOC. Should be straight forward.
Documentation
-------------
Documentation is spread out in a number of file all ending in .DOC. I
do this to allow me to update them easily. I am not a very good tech
writer so things may be a little obscure. N4CHV has written some pretty
good documentation and should be contacted for copies. I don't have
them!
To my test users
----------------
Thank you for helping make 2.13 as good as it is. Your help is greatly
appreciated. Every hour of your testing makes my job one hour easier.
Usage, Registration, and Contributions
--------------------------------------
A question has come up as to the status of this program. It is free for
any use (commercial, noncommercial, governmental) but cannot be sold.
The copyright explicitly says this. The program is NOT public domain.
You can't take it, make some changes, and sell it as your own.
For those who worry about such things, I explicitly grant permission to
all Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), Civil Air Patrol
(CAP), and Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) organizations to use
these programs.
There is no need to register your copy with anyone. Enjoy!
I don't solicit contributions but any money you want to send will not be
thrown away. My own equipment is very limited and I depend on friends,
and companies to supply the different varieties of TNCs. See the note
above.
Unfortunately there are always a few exceptions to the rule. I reserve
the right to prohibit anyone or any organization from using this program
even if permission is granted elsewhere in this statement. I reserve
the right to charge anyone or any organization licensing fees (not
without notification, of course)
I also reserve the right to change this policy at any time.
Feedback
--------
Please keep those messages flowing in. My BBS environment here is not
the same as many of yours so I appreciate your suggestions. Many of the
features of this release were suggested by SYSOPs who I have never met.
Distribution
------------
To make my life easier, I distribute the BBS only in electronic form and
only to a very few places. I also distribute it via Internet, BITNET,
and the IBM radio Clubs. In addition, there are several people who make
it a lot easier to find a copy. I have several "official" diskette
distributors and many unofficial ones (See the BBDIS file). Also many
sysops copy my stuff to their BBS (both radio and landline). Many
thanks to all of you that help distribute the code.
**** PLEASE **** distribute all the .DOC files with the BBS. I get many
many calls where the user does not have them all.
Service
-------
I try to help everyone as much as I can but the mail and phone gets
overwhelming. I spend a lot of hours working on this program and the
more time I have to develop things, the faster new releases will come
out. New SYSOPs should contact others in the same area for assistance
in setting their system up. I am sure that you will find plenty of
helpers out there.
I don't get to answer everything I want to so a question or comment may
never get answered. I am sorry but writing this program is wedged in
amongst my other hobbies and other ham radio activities.
If you don't like this policy I am sorry but that is the way it is. At
least you got the program for free and didn't get ripped off.
Please use electronic mail. I am very bad at letters. Phone calls are
ok if you need a lot of info. I PREFER MESSAGES!
My phone number is 408-847-3210. Please try only between 8:30 PM and
9:30 PM Pacific time weekdays or 10 AM to 7PM weekends. Wednesday is a
bad time to reach me. *** This is CALIFORNIA TIME (UTC-8) -- Don't
forget to convert time zones!!! ***
During the American football season (September, October, and November),
I usually not a home on Friday nights and all day Saturday.
Electronically, I can be reached via:
Internet: enge @ almaden.ibm.com
BITNET: ENGE at ALMADEN
FAX: (408)-927-2704
You can reach me on COMPUSERV/GENIE/MCIMAIL thru the INTERNET gateway.
I can also be reached thru many of the IBM Radio Clubs.
